About GENVAS

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
– Calvin Coolidge

Preserving the Full American Story
Art as Response | United We Stand

Founded in 2010, GENVAS (Generation Venetian Arts Society) is a Florida-based 501(c)(3) cultural arts and humanitarian organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and advancing America’s diverse cultural inheritance through music, visual art, theater, literature, film, education, and interdisciplinary programming.

Inspired by the historic salon tradition and reimagined for the 21st century, GENVAS creates original artistic experiences that explore the people, traditions, histories, and creative achievements that have shaped the American experience.

At its core, GENVAS believes that culture is a form of stewardship. Every generation inherits stories, values, artistic traditions, and historical lessons from those who came before. The responsibility of cultural institutions is not merely to entertain, but to preserve this inheritance and ensure that future generations understand the many voices that contributed to the American story.

The American Lineage

America’s strength has never come from uniformity. It has come from the remarkable ability of people from different backgrounds, faiths, regions, and traditions to contribute their talents to a shared national identity.

GENVAS approaches history as a living lineage—an ongoing conversation between past, present, and future. Through performances, exhibitions, public dialogue, and educational initiatives, the organization documents and celebrates the artistic, cultural, and civic contributions that have shaped our nation.

Our work is guided by three enduring principles:

Heritage Preservation
The stories, traditions, and achievements of previous generations deserve to be preserved with integrity and passed forward.

Cultural Stewardship
The arts serve as a living archive of the American experience, safeguarding collective memory while inspiring future innovation.

Civic Unity
Shared cultural experiences create opportunities for understanding, mutual respect, and community connection across generations and backgrounds.

Why This Work Matters

Throughout American history, artists have served as chroniclers of the nation’s aspirations, struggles, achievements, and evolution. Art preserves memory. Art strengthens civic life. Art connects citizens to one another and to the generations that came before them.

In an era marked by increasing polarization and social fragmentation, cultural institutions play an essential role in maintaining the civic and historical bonds that unite communities.

GENVAS believes that understanding the complete American story—including the triumphs, challenges, innovations, and contributions of all who helped build this nation—is fundamental to preserving our democratic culture and strengthening our collective future.

From South Florida, With Love!

Inspired by the principles of human dignity articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, GENVAS’ “From South Florida, With Love!” initiative positions one of America’s most culturally dynamic regions as a model of civic engagement, cultural exchange, and artistic excellence.

Through music, visual arts, public conversations, theater, and multimedia storytelling, the initiative celebrates the shared values that connect people across backgrounds while highlighting the traditions, histories, and artistic achievements that enrich American life.

Cultural Preservation Through Artistic Excellence

Programs such as I Am American!Inherited Stories: Roots, Resilience, and the American StageAncestry in MotionRise: A Tribute to Black American Artistry, and United We Stand! explore how diverse cultural traditions have contributed to the evolution of American music, literature, visual art, and civic identity.

These programs are not exercises in division; they are acts of preservation. They document cultural lineages, honor artistic achievement, and illuminate the interconnected histories that form our shared national inheritance.

The Florida Highwaymen Legacy Reimagined, for example, preserves an important chapter of Florida’s artistic history while demonstrating how cultural traditions evolve across generations. By connecting contemporary artist Onicas Onassa to the legacy of his predecessors, the project illustrates how artistic excellence, entrepreneurship, resilience, and innovation continue to shape American culture.

Similarly, GENVAS’ musical and theatrical programming examines how American artists have used creativity to expand understanding, strengthen communities, and enrich the nation’s cultural legacy.

Cultural Salons as Civic Living Rooms

GENVAS salons function as modern civic gathering spaces where audiences engage with artists, scholars, educators, and community leaders through shared cultural experiences.

These gatherings foster intergenerational dialogue, encourage lifelong learning, and reinforce the understanding that culture is a living inheritance entrusted to each generation.

By bringing together diverse audiences around artistic excellence and historical exploration, GENVAS strengthens the civic fabric that binds communities together.

Meet our Founder & President

“I am only one; but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something.

I will not refuse to do something I can do.” – Helen Keller

William “Willie” Riddle founded GENVAS by combining a lifetime of artistic, educational, hospitality, production, design, and community leadership experience into a singular vision for arts advocacy and cultural engagement.

Originally from the mountain region of North Carolina, Willie demonstrated artistic talent at an early age and pursued formal studies in music, vocal performance, and opera at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. After performing professionally in opera and musical theater, he transitioned into hospitality management, entertainment production, and later interior design and fine arts presentation.

His early salon programs in South Florida quickly became major cultural gatherings and ultimately evolved into the founding of Venetian Arts Society in 2010. During the global pandemic of 2020, Willie expanded that vision into the GENVAS concept — “Generation Venetian Arts Society” — emphasizing intergenerational collaboration, digital accessibility, and innovative salon experiences designed for a global audience.

Today, GENVAS continues to evolve as a powerful cultural and humanitarian platform using the arts not as escape, but as engagement; not as ornament, but as catalyst. Because this work cannot wait. And because art still has the power to illuminate, challenge, heal, and move humanity forward.
