Each program gives voice to communities whose histories\, struggles\, triumphs\, and identities deserve not only recognition\, but dignity. \nThe series begins with Voices of Venezuela: History\, Heritage\, and Song featuring Maria Brea\, soprano and Felix Jarrar\, piano collaborator. The evening is an  intimate exploration of Venezuelan history\, identity\, displacement\, and cultural pride through song\, poetry\, and personal narrative. \n\n \nInternationally acclaimed Venezuelan-American soprano Maria Brea brings radiant vocal beauty\, emotional depth\, and extraordinary dramatic presence to this intimate performance. A graduate of The Juilliard School\, Brea has appeared on many of the world’s most celebrated stages\, including Carnegie Hall\, the Metropolitan Opera\, and Palais Garnier in Paris. Praised for her “luxurious polish” and “virtuosity\,” her artistry reflects both technical brilliance and profound humanity.\n\nFelix Jarrar has more than 275 compositions to his name\, Jarrar collaborates with leading opera companies and institutions throughout the United States and most recently served with the Florida Grand Opera. His work was featured on the 2024 GRAMMY®-nominated album 40@40.

Each program gives voice to communities whose histories\, struggles\, triumphs\, and identities deserve not only recognition\, but dignity.\n\n\nBorn in the Ural region of Russia and raised in a deeply musical family\, Margarita Shevchenko began piano studies at the age of five before continuing her education at the prestigious Moscow Central Music School and later the Moscow State Conservatory. Her extraordinary artistry quickly gained international recognition\, including First Prize at the Göttingen Chopin Piano Competition in Germany and distinction as a prizewinner at the renowned 1990 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw\, Poland. Her international concert career has carried her across the world’s great stages\, while her devotion to education has led her to teach masterclasses globally and serve on the faculties of both the Cleveland Institute of Music and Michigan State University. After moving to the United States in 1994\, she continued advanced studies with celebrated pianist Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
