Following her devastating diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa\, the disease led to her eventual blindness before the age of forty. This thrusted her into a different life\, a different tribe\, a different mindset than the one she was acculturated to when she had sight.  Decades later state of the art surgery restored partial sight in one eye. The book discusses the realities of coping with disabilities. Her objective is to inspire all those who experience big life challenges to dig down deep. To find the power within to confront these experiences. She wants to encourage every listener to become the hero of their own stories. \nElizabeth has appeared on podcasts and speaks at events across South Florida. Today\, his catalog includes original songs & mashups. The Yale graduate has toured extensively throughout the US\, Asia\, & Australia.  Sam as a strong digital presence 3.13M YouTube subscribers\, 1.4M Facebook followers & 341k Instagram followers.  Mr. Tsui announced his sexual orientation the day before he married Mr. Brevens. The duo resides in Los Angeles with their 3-year-old daughter whom they adopted at birth. She will be joining us for the festival. \nCasey Breves is an American singer\, songwriter & content creator. who as performed across the United States\, Europe\, & Asia as both a pop and classical vocalist. Born and raised in New York City\, he sang with the GRAMMY Award‐winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer after graduating from Yale University where he was a member of the Whiffenpoofs. He performed on Saturday Night Live\, Good Morning America\, & Prairie Home Companion & as a soloist in concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, the Seattle Symphony\, the Denver Philharmonic\, & at Radio City Music Hall as a backup vocalist for Adele. Casey also has a long affiliation with the NYC based nonprofit Camber Queer whose mission is to program queer artists and composers; highlight historically under-represented queer figures in classical music; and provide an inclusive and intersectional space in classical music for artists and audience alike. Robert has spent his career working tirelessly to promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and advance democratic principles around the world. One of Kesten’s notable achievements is his role in writing and producing an award-winning documentary on the Holocaust. In Ukraine\,  Kesten’s advocacy led to the decriminalization of homosexuality in Ukraine\, making it the first Soviet Republic to achieve this milestone. This advocacy work not only advanced LGBTQ+ rights but also set a precedent for human rights in the region. In the United States\, Kesten has been a driving force behind significant initiatives aimed at supporting those affected by AIDS. He produced events for the nation’s first AIDS day treatment center\, providing critical support and services to individuals living with the disease. His work in this area underscores his commitment to health equity and social justice. \n1:30-3:00 P.M. Robert “Bobby” Fieseler\, Investigative Journalist & Author researches marginalized groups and writes about forgotten histories. Fieseler graduated co-valedictorian from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and is a recipient of the Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship. He is currently pursuing a PhD in History at Tulane University as a Mellon Fellow. \nHe will do a reading from his latest book AMERICAN SCARE: FLORIDA’S HIDDEN COLD WAR ON BLACK AND QUEER LIVES\, lead a discussion about LGBTQ history & take questions from the audience. Mr. Fieseler is a prolific award winning writer whose earlier book Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Up Stairs Lounge Fire and the Rise of Gay Liberation \nWon the 2021 Betty Berzon Emerging Writer Award\, the 2020 Louisiana Literary Award; 2020 Devil’s Kitchen Reading Award in Nonfiction Prose; was shortlisted for 2020 William Saroyan International Prize for Writing;  won the 2019 Edgar Award in Best Fact Crime; the 2019 Lambda Literary Judith A. Markowitz Award for Emerging Writers; 2019 NLGJA Excellence in Book Writing Award and numerous other accolades. Events include Friday night’s opening night reception with round table discussion\, art exhibit\, a musical performances. Saturday afternoon features a  lecture & book reading and Saturday night The Promise Salon concert \nFestival programs highlight the contributions the LGBTQ community have made to American society. Performers\, vendors & venues were selected for their commitment to the LGBTQ community. The festival is open to those interested in supporting and/or learning more about the challenges & triumphs faced by the LGBTQ community & the people who value them.  \nSchedule  \n6:00–6:45 P.M. The panel includes married tenors & social media stars Sam Tsui & Casey Breves\, Investigative Journalist & Author Robert “Bobby” Fieseler\, Robert Kesten\, President & CEO Stonewall National Museum\, Archives & Library Florida native Karina Iglesias\, vocalist\, best known for her appearances on ”The Voice.” \n7:15-8:00 P.M. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the South Florida & GENVAS debut of 26 year old actor/singer David Marino. David has performed at prestigious venues and jazz clubs across North America. Marino performs regularly at Place des Arts in Montreal\, and recently\, at the iconic Birdland Jazz Club in New York alongside legendary pianist Billy Stritch\, accompanist to the late Tony Bennett and Liza Minnelli’s long time musical director. He recently completed his West Coast US debut tour starting in San Francisco and made his European debut in Rome in the fall of 2024.  Marino is excited to also be working on his debut album. DESCRIPTION:Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical version of The Phantom of the Opera  tells the story of a masked figure who lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House\, exercising a reign of terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young soprano\, Christine\, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his command. \nIn collaboration with GENVAS\, the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center\, we will present a powerful concert version of  The Phantom of the Opera.  Performed by Broadway artists this production features beloved highlights including “The Phantom of the Opera\,” “All I Ask of You\,” “The Music of the Night\,” “Masquerade” and the GRAMMY nominated “Learn to Be Lonely.”  The cast then takes the audience on a journey of “Broadway Through the Years” revisiting music from Broadway’s early beginnings of Gilbert and Sullivan\, George Gershwin\, and Jerome Kern right up to today’s hits such as Kimberly Akimbo and Hamilton!  \nAppearing in this production is Kimilee Bryant who is the only actress to sing all three main female characters. She is best known for playing the role of Christine Daaé in the Broadway production and in many major international productions of The Phantom of the Opera.  Florida native\, Laird Mackintosh\, was an ensemble member in the national tour until 2012 when he joined the Broadway cast as a swing. There he covered 13 different tracks and performed as Raoul for eight years. Greg has also appeared in national tours of Big and regional tours of Evita\, Jesus Christ Superstar\, Miss Saigon\, Aida\, and Sweeney Todd.  Michele McConnell is a singer andactress who made her Broadway debut in The Phantom of the Opera in July 2011\, in the role of Carlotta Guidicelli. DESCRIPTION:Take a trip with us to the Isla del Encanto and explore the colorful tapestry of Puerto Rician culture and experience a mixture of Indigenous\, Spanish\, and African traditions.\n\nHonoree Martina Arroyo\, soprano\, with special guest speakers Mario Hamle –Metz\, international opera scholar\, author\, & critic and Dr. Denise St. Patrick Bell\, civic rights activist\, cultural arts advocate\, & philanthropist.\n\nMartina Arroyo has received numerous accolades for her prolific career including appearances on the world’s foremost opera houses and concert halls. In 2013 she was a Kenndy Center Honors recipient and in 2010 she received the Opera Honors Award from the National Endowment of the art. \n\nMs. Arroyo will join us electronically from her Central Park home in New York City where Andrew Martin -Webber\, Vice President of the Martina Arroyo Foundation\, will present her with the GENVAS 2024 Icon of the Arts Award.\n\nThe event also includes a delectable luncheon featuring a charcuterie board\,  assorted antipastos\, crudités\, mini pastries\, coffee\, water & wine is included in the price.  A portion of ticket proceeds will be used to help fund Arc Broward’s valuable programming. \n\n \n\nThis event was made possible through the  generous support provided by \n\nJaqueline Neihaus\, Mike Osceola\, & Brian Hill.\n\nThank you!
