Pompano Beach Cultural Center debuts the original concert series Bell’ Arte produced by GENVAS. Enjoy an unforgettable evening of Spanish Romances, Zarzuelas, and Grand Opera Arias featuring the internationally acclaimed Eglise Gutiérrez, soprano. Zarzuelas are a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between spoken and sung scenes, the latter incorporating operatic and popular songs. She has won the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, the Montserrat Caballe International Singing Competition, and the Marian Anderson Prize for Emerging Classical Artists. Ms. Gutiérrez made her European debut in October 2005 in the title role of Maria di Rohan (Donizetti) at Wexford Festival Opera. On 7 September 2009, she made her house debut at London’s Royal Opera House in the title role of Linda di Chamounix (Donizetti) (recorded by Opera Rara and released in 2010).. The New York Times said of her performance “…the evening belonged to the soprano Eglise Gutiérrez, whose intense presence and liquid tone resulted in a grippingly eerie portrayal of Giulietta. Gutiérrez went straight to the heart of what makes bel canto repertory work: beautiful sound and inventive embellishment, made to render emotion palpable.”
Luis Urbina began his musical studies at the age of nine on the piano and at age 10 with the cello. Luis went on to become a semifinalist in the Lennox International Competition and in the first round of the Gina-Bachauer Competition. In the summer of 2010 he had the amazing opportunity, under auspices of the Miami International Piano Festival and the Summit Music Festival, to audition and be chosen to perform a recital with legendary violinist Ida Haendel. Luis attended Florida International University to study with Kemal Gekic. Urbina is currently performing regularly as a solo and collaborative pianist.
